Deanté Gray is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer from Houston, Texas whose journey from professional athlete to storyteller shapes the heart of his work. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Film, Television, and Digital Media from Texas Christian University (TCU) and his Master’s in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. Before stepping behind the camera, Deante’ excelled on the football field—first as a standout student-athlete for the TCU Horned Frogs, then as a wide receiver for his hometown NFL team, the Houston Texans. After injuries brought his athletic career to an end, he turned to creative writing and photography as a form of self-expression, which soon evolved into screenwriting and filmmaking. His NYFA thesis film, Loving Byron, premiered at Warner Bros. Studios and earned multiple nominations, including Best Short Film at NewFilmmakers LA’s Annual Awards. Following his Master’s, Deante’ founded Gray Area Productions, where he writes, directs, produces, shoots, and edits a wide range of projects—from narrative films and web series to branded content and commercials. His most recent project, Sideline Story, won Best Series at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) and premiered to critical acclaim. Through his work, Deante’ explores identity, vulnerability, ambition, and the emotional complexity of the human experience. He views storytelling as both a mirror and a bridge—connecting audiences to themselves and to each other.
